Routers can be used to cut acrylic for both curved and straight cuts.
How to cut acrylic sheet.
First grab a metal ruler and a utility knife preferably one with a brand new blade.
Use a 7 1 4 plastic cutting saw blade to cut acrylic with a circular saw.
To cut acrylic sheets start by marking the line you want to cut using a ruler and a permanent marker.
Thicker plexiglass strangely enough allows for the simplest of the cutting processes.
Use an o flute up spiral plastic cutting bit to cut acrylic with a router.
For best results use another tool like the earlier mentioned table saw to cut your acrylic roughly before getting a more exact finish with the router.
Then score the line using a plastic scoring blade using the ruler as a guide so your line is straight.
Mark the area of sheet you want to cut.
Measure the ruler against the cutting line and then draw the knife repeatedly down its edge gradually increasing the pressure with each pass.
Place the sheet over hard edge with groove side up.
Once you ve scored the initial line go over it a few times with the blade until a groove forms.
Be sure to use a compressor to keep the sheet in position to avoid chipping and more time needed to polish the cut.
